The Gong Cities

In this series, Mara Fabro lifts the point of view into a near-geographic dimension.

Seen from above, circular formsemerge, around which urban conglomerates develop—visual echoes of cities growing like living organisms.

The compositions unfold in dynamic structures, with energy radiating outward from the center to the periphery, resembling vibrations. The title The Gong Cities refers to the ancient Chinese instrument, whose sound expands throughspace and time—just like the pulsating rhythm of a growing metropolis. This idea is layered with the reference to Renaissance domes, where the viewer gazed upward into a suspended space, symbol of infinity and transcendence.

The work reflects on the city as an energetic core: a place of tensions, desires, and connections. It’s a visual exploration of the soul of urban space—observed from above, experienced from within. A union of matter, memory, and symbolicresonance.
