Light Reveals

It is light that makes the water so clear you can see the seabed.

It is light that brings out the sea's emerald greens.

It is light that glides across rocks shaped by wind, revealing every contour and, for a brief moment,

turning them into almost human forms.

The same coastline changes its character many times

throughout the day.

And each time, it seems to tell a different story.

When I find myself in front of a landscape like this, I never think about taking a photograph. I simply stop and observe.

Because I know that what captures my attention is not the sea itself.

It is the way light transforms everything I see.

Light as Part of the Design

Perhaps that is why, when I create a work, light is never an afterthought.

It is part of the design from the very beginning.

My textured surfaces are created for this reason as well: to change throughout the day, responding to the light and revealing a different perception every time.

Light does not simply change colours.

It changes the way we perceive matter.

I notice it every time I am in Sardinia.

When the sun is low, the rocks seem to come alive.

Every erosion appears deeper.

Every surface tells the story of the wind and the sea.

The water becomes so transparent that it almost feels within reach.

It is not only what I see.

It is what I imagine I could touch.

That is the same sensation I look for in my work.

Light is not there simply to illuminate a piece.

It reveals its materiality.

That is why I create surfaces rich in relief, carved marks and layered textures.

As light moves across them, what the eye perceives continuously changes.

Often, it creates the impulse to reach out and touch the surface, wondering whether it truly feels like sand, rock or water.

There are moments when you look at the sea under the sun and it seems to glow from within.

Emerald greens gradually emerge, blending into blues and turquoise before changing once again.

The same happens when a work is lit with care.

Details slowly reveal themselves.

What was hidden becomes visible.

Light does not simply illuminate.

It reveals colour.

It reveals matter.
